About the Oak Leaf Festival

Our Story

Since 1999, the Oak Leaf Festival has been bringing people together to celebrate community, tradition, and the vibrant spirit of Oak Hill, West Virginia. What began as the Sports Festival has grown into one of southern West Virginia's premier annual celebrations, welcoming thousands of residents and visitors each Labor Day weekend.

Organized entirely by dedicated volunteers, the festival was founded with a simple mission: to create an event that showcases the best of our community while providing affordable family entertainment, supporting local businesses, and celebrating the people and traditions that make Oak Hill a special place to call home.

A Labor Day Weekend Tradition

Each year, the Oak Leaf Festival transforms downtown Oak Hill into a destination filled with excitement, entertainment, and hometown hospitality. What began as a small community event has evolved into a multi-day festival featuring something for everyone.

Festival guests enjoy:

Live musical entertainment
Arts, crafts, and commercial vendors
Delicious food from local and regional vendors
Family activities and children's attractions
Classic car and motorcycle shows
Pageants celebrating participants of all ages
Youth talent showcases
Pumpkin competitions and seasonal events
The beloved Parade of Lights
A spectacular fireworks celebration
Community contests, exhibits, and special events

Every year brings new experiences while preserving the traditions that families have enjoyed for generations.

Celebrating Our Community

The Oak Leaf Festival is more than an annual event—it's a celebration of the people who make Oak Hill and the surrounding region extraordinary. It provides opportunities for local artists, musicians, businesses, nonprofit organizations, schools, churches, and civic groups to share their talents and connect with thousands of visitors.

For many families, attending the festival has become a cherished tradition passed from one generation to the next. It is a weekend where neighbors reconnect, visitors discover our community, and new memories are created.

Built by Volunteers

One of the things that makes the Oak Leaf Festival truly special is the people behind it. The festival is planned and produced by a passionate team of volunteers who dedicate countless hours throughout the year to ensure each festival is better than the last.

Their commitment, along with the generous support of sponsors, community partners, vendors, and entertainers allow the festival to continue growing while remaining true to its community-centered roots.

Looking Ahead

Like many community events, the Oak Leaf Festival has faced challenges throughout its history, including the cancellation of the 2020 festival during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the resilience and dedication of their volunteers and community, the festival returned stronger than ever and continues to grow each year.

Today, the Oak Leaf Festival stands as one of southern West Virginia's signature Labor Day weekend celebrations.Whether you're a lifelong resident, a returning visitor, or attending for the very first time, we invite you to experience the warmth, excitement, and community spirit that have made the Oak Leaf Festival a cherished tradition for more than 25 years.
